“For I proclaim the name of the Lord; Ascribe greatness to our God!” (Deuteronomy 32:3, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, praying with you for the creative distribution of God’s Word.

Radio is still the most effective way for most Afghans to receive information. Shepherds on the hillsides will carry short-wave radios with them and listen as they watch over their sheep. People in the villages will gather around a radio and listen in a group. For close to 20 years now, Sadaye Zindagi (Sounds of Life) has been producing Christian broadcasts in the Dari language. The programs are broadcast for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening. Afghans are able to listen to Scripture being read to them, teaching from the Bible, groups of Afghans gathered to model a house church, music, and answers to direct questions that callers have asked. There are reports from all across the country of people listening to these broadcasts.

In a four month period, 220 cell phones and 436 SD memory cards for those phones were given out, mostly to people living in rural areas of Ethiopia. Many Amhara people cannot read, so this form of getting them God’s Word can be very effective. Each memory card contains chronological Bible stories, the “JESUS” and the “Magdalena” films to watch, the “Creation to Christ” Gospel story with pictures, the audio New Testament, 150 songs that are Scripture based and are in the Orthodox style, and more. With these cards, people are able to “blue tooth” (send) the message of Christ to other phones—other people.

* Please pray that this memory card content will be sent out to multitudes of Amhara.

* Pray that Tajiks of Afghanistan will be able to access these radio programs and that they will be drawn to the truth of the Gospel presented.

* Proclaim the greatness of our God to one of your neighbors by telling them about your favorite Christian radio station or by recommending a Christian movie.

"Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers.” (1 Corinthians 3:8-9a, NJKV)

WORLD LEADER - - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Willy Telavi of Tuvalu (western Pacific Ocean).

LAST FRONTIER - Workers have good news to share! Join them in rejoicing and giving thanks to God for one who has received new life! After more than two years of building relationships among a population segment of a Last Frontier people group, a woman in her 90s has given her heart to Jesus and has already followed up her commitment with baptism! Her years are many, but her mind is still very sharp. Please pray for her now to grow in this new relationship and to have a bold story to share with her friends. Ask that she will be satisfied daily in the Word and experience His peace in her heart.

SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES - An Engagement Team member writes: “We began to hear about the Bulouf when we started doing research in the Casamance area of Senegal. ‘Are the Bulouf a people group?’ we’d ask our expatriate friends. ‘No, Bulouf is an area.’ ‘Is this an area?’ we’d ask our national friends. ‘No, it’s a people group.’ Although all indications were leading us to believe more and more that the Bulouf really were a people group, we still needed more evidence.” Recently, while doing research in The Gambia, the team was searching for another unengaged, unreached people group called the Bayot. On the way to an area they had previously visited, they gave a ride to some women who were walking down the same dirt road they were traveling. These women were going to a funeral. The team member writes: “When they indicated that they wanted to get out of the truck, I asked, ‘Who lives in this area?’ ‘Oh, this whole area is Bulouf.’ Excitement was building as we recognized God was showing us that the Bulouf are indeed a people group. ‘Are there any Christians?’ ‘No, we are all Muslim.’ God went to great lengths that day to make sure that we understood that the Bulouf are a people group! He wants every tribe to know and worship Him, and He had orchestrated this day for us to know for sure that they are a people group in need of the Gospel. Pray that the Bulouf will have access to the Gospel.”

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.” (Matthew 28:19a, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in prayer for the millions observing this month of Ramadan.

Bright orange cloth with a bold floral border forms a near cocoon as it wraps around Latifa’s* body and also forms a veil for her head. Only her face and hands are visible as she walks along the beach, trying to “beat the heat” as she observes her annual pre-Ramadan fast days. Latifa, a kind woman, is striving to make it into Paradise, so she is always faithful to make up her missed fast days from the previous year and add in some extra days for potential rewards with Allah. As much as she tries to be a dutiful Muslim woman, she is never sure how much of these good works is enough. Recently she read about Someone who had taken care of all of her mistakes and could make sure that she would get into heaven. That sounded too good to be true, but she wanted to know more. In her personal prayers after her formal prayers, this upper-class White Moor woman humbled herself and asked Allah to send her someone to tell her more about this Redeemer. Who will obey the Great Commission and go?

Songhai men and women of West Africa are now fasting for the Islamic month of Ramadan. For the 100 new believers among the Songhai, this will be the first time in their lives that they will not participate in an event that is not only part of their former religion, but is also a very cultural holiday. If they haven’t already drawn attention to themselves by becoming a Jesus follower, they will certainly do so now.

* Please pray that Songhai believers will stand strong in the face of the persecution that will undoubtedly come, and ask that they will never cease praising the one true God.

* Pray for a believing woman to share with Latifa so that Latifa can emerge from her spiritual cocoon and soar in the freedom of new life in Jesus.

* Ask God to call out laborers who are willing to go and make disciples.

“God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear Him. (Psalm 67:7, HCSB)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Premier Rufus Ewing of the Turks and Caicos (islands in the Caribbean, southeast of the Bahamas).

M’ZAB OF THE SAHARA DESERT AND BEYOND (m-zab) - Laboring in an obscure repair shop, Mustafa* toils seven days a week as his way to please God. Mustafa believes that if he works hard enough, one day when he stands before God, God just might accept him into Paradise. Recently Mustafa heard about the work that the Son has done on his behalf and that the Son is the way--the only way--to the Father. Mustafa struggles to reconcile this teaching with the teachings of his holy book. He is fully aware that only one of these teachings can be true, but he is unsure which one. Mustafa understands that sin has corrupted everyone’s life and that we must all be sinless to be able to stand one day in the Father’s presence. Pray that the Spirit will reveal to Mustafa the work of the Son: the work of salvation, grace, forgiveness, and relationship with the Father. “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’” (John 14:6, HCSB). (*pseudonym)

NKOYA OF WESTERN ZAMBIA (n-COY-yah) - Please pray for Houston*, a home missionary to the Nkoya people. He is doing an excellent job of teaching and preaching the Word and encouraging fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Pray that what God is doing through Houston will continue among the Nkoya people! (*pseudonym)

“May God be praised! He has not turned away my prayer or turned His faithful love from me.” (Psalm 66:20, HCSB)

WORLD LEADER - “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan (north of Iran).

QIZILBASH-AFSHARI OF AFGHANISTAN (KIH-zil-bahsh ahf-shah-REE) - Please intercede for the time and access needed to reach the Quizilbash-Afshari people. They live in an unstable political environment that currently is in a major transition and, thus, access is difficult. Pray that God will grant His children entry into their day-to-day lives. Ask the Father for miracles to be done in their midst that can only be credited to Christ Jesus. Pray that deeper questions about the meaning of their life will nag at them, leading them to search out the truth. Finally, ask that those who are searching will intersect with a believer ready to share with them.

centralasianpeople@gmail.com

SOUTH KOREA - Tears flowed like a river. As she shared her heart and recent spiritual breakthrough, a Korean friend could hardly express to the missionary how God had convicted her of serving Him with a “good works” mentality. She was often a member of mission teams, ready to serve others, and generously gave of her finances and time to minister. Recently she met a former college friend who shared her recent salvation experience. The Spirit used her friend’s testimony to reveal sin and truth in her own life. She feels the Lord is bringing her to a place of renewal, which she prays fervently will be true for the body of Christ in her country of Korea. Pray for a spiritual renewal and awakening to be birthed among God’s people, and pray that each one telling another one will result in tears of repentance and joy flowing like rivers in Korea.

Parting is sweet sorrow for missionary parents
Goodbyes and separations aren't always easy for the parents of missionaries. "It's very normal for parents to feel a sense of loss and grief," says Mark Whitworth, head of IMB's member care group, a team that provides emotional and mental health support for more than 4,800 IMB missionaries serving around the world. "It's a process every parent must work through." Read their stories, watch a helpful video and find tips for connecting with families overseas.

Iraq conflict causes 'double crisis' for region's refugees
Half a million Iraqis left Mosul last week, fleeing with their families into Kurdish-ruled northern Iraq and neighboring countries and compounding the already heavy burden of the Syrian refugee crisis. "This creates a double crisis at a time when we can barely handle Syria," said Don Alan (name changed), a Christian leader in the region.

Despite threats to evangelistic festival, many accept Gospel
The Festival of Hope pulled together 150 evangelical churches and trained them to share the Gospel and lead people to Christ. This has sparked a fire in Georgian believers. More than 1,000 people have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior through this effort.

WorldView: 'Pray for my friends,' 8-year-old asks
"These friends are just like me," Jacob said. "But they don't know about Jesus. Please pray that these friends of mine would come to know Jesus." He might not have all the theological arguments and explanations worked out, but he loves his friends. That's all the theology Jacob needs to obey Christ's command to share the Gospel.
