| Prayer requests on the website are updated every Monday-Friday at 9:30 a.m., EST May 23, 2014 A NOTE FROM THE PRAYER OFFICE: IMB will be closed on Monday, May 26, due to the observance of Memorial Day, so “Today’s Prayer will not be available on that day. Thank you. "This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him.” (Psalm 34:6a) WORLD LEADER - Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for President Jacob Zuma of South Africa (southern Africa). SEREER OF SENEGAL AND THE GAMBIA (suh-RARE) - “It will be very hard for us when they leave. They have become our daughters and sisters. It is sure that we will cry!” This was the response when Kari*, a worker, asked members of a Sereer family about what it will be like for them when short-term workers Karis* and Grace* leave. These young women have been living with them since January, but will leave at the end of May to return to their homeland. Most Christians would think that living with a family that follows a world religion would be very difficult, and there have been some difficult moments, but it has been “totally worth it,” according to Karis and Grace! Although their language skills don’t extend much beyond greetings and goodbyes, they have learned to communicate God’s love through a living witness of Christ to this family. As these young women say goodbye at the end of this month, please pray that the Lord will continue to work in the lives of this generous host family to draw them to Himself. Just as they welcomed God’s children into their family, may they also invite Jesus in so that they can become a part of the family of God. (*pseudonyms) TUNISIAN ARABS OF SOUTHERN TUNISIA (too-NEE-zhan) - Frank* is a young man who read the Word and turned to the Father in faith and repentance. When he shared his new faith with his family, they disowned him and kicked him out of their house, leaving him homeless. The Father has been sustaining Frank and giving him peace in very difficult circumstances. He was baptized in the sea in obedience to the Word, and as he emerged from the chilly blue water, Frank exclaimed, “I am new!” He continues to share with friends and whoever else will listen, and has given away his copy of the Word several times. Praise the Father for working in this young man’s life! Ask that Frank and other believers experiencing persecution will be rooted and built up in their faith through fiery trials. Ask the Father to provide for their needs, and to gather these brothers and sisters into churches.
