Cattle represent food, currency, status, and the ability to secure a wife in the culture of the Mondari people of South Sudan. The Mondari of South Sudan number more than 150,000. These people have had to flee their homeland because of war. They now live in refugee camps without the status and financial security evidenced through their cattle. Life is not easy in a refugee camp. There have been no active church-planting activities among this people group. At present, they have a mixture of Christian views and animistic beliefs. Frezeti is one of the many IDP (internally displaced people) camps scattered around the country of Georgia. However, Frezeti camp has all but been forgotten. Its 300 homes, approximately 500 square feet in size, were built quickly, far away from any town or major highway, and its more than 1,200 residents live with little hope of returning to their own homes or finding jobs. Workers began a Kids Bible Club in March and were blessed with 37 children (first through six grades) attending. There are at least three different warring factions fighting in Yemen right now. The internally displaced people are innocent bystanders whose homes and lives have been destroyed by the constant violence. In one of the many areas in the country with ongoing conflict, landmines have been left behind and are harming many innocent children. * Please pray that de-mining groups will be able to get to the areas in Yemen that need to be de-mined in order to protect children and others who may stumble across an old landmine. * Pray that workers in Georgia will be able to continue to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of those living in the Frezeti IDP camp. * Intercede for the Mondari of South Sudan, particularly for those who have moved to the Boroli Refugee Camp near Adjumani, Uganda. Pray that they will find that Jesus is all they need. |
