The Moncure Baptist Church of Moncure, North Carolina, has embraced the T and EK peoples of Colombia. During their third week of teaching English to Colombian school teachers, they reported that several indigenous teachers participated, the team members were able to share testimonies, and several teachers asked for a local church to contact them. The team received an invitation to begin a second series of classes with an indigenous school district. There has not been any church-planting activity in known history among the Kachera people of the Deccan in India. The Kachera “caste” is known for making glass bangles (bracelets). They number approximately 7,000 and speak Urdu. There appears to be some kind of overlap between the Kachera and other Muslim peoples of the state: the Shaikh and the Pathan. Believers from other people groups living in the area have gone into the community, praying and attempting to find those desiring to know more about Jesus. The Lopa people in Nigeria have a population of approximately 22,000. They are primarily involved in African traditional religion, which includes the worship of spirits. One Lopa woman shared her personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, but could name no other Christians among her people. Further questioning revealed that this may well be the case: that she truly is the only Lopa Christian. They are considered a people bent on remaining true to their traditional beliefs, and, sadly, no one could be identified as seeking to evangelize and plant churches among the Lopa. * Please pray for Nigerian Baptists as well as Southern Baptists to follow God’s calling to share the truth of Christ’s love with the Lopa. * Ask God to give the Kachera Muslims a hunger for Him that outstrips their desire for religious tradition. * Pray that members of Moncure Baptist Church and the Colombian English teachers will sense God’s leading and bring praise to His name. |
