A worker among the Basotho of Lesotho and South Africa wrote, “I am longing today for just a few things. I long to hold my aging mother, and remind her once again of my thankfulness for God’s provision in her life and in mine. I long to touch the faces of our growing grandchildren, reassuring them that they are not forgotten. I long for the day when the Basotho can go without hunger. I long for a time when AIDS will no longer hold the Africans hostage.” Another serving among European peoples shared, “It’s amazing to see how God uses our times of weakness. Giving birth to our first baby and being so far from home caused the very people to whom we were reaching out to reach back to us--and even more so when my father ended up having an urgent open-heart surgery 10 days after our son’s birth. In came a flood of people with daily visits, plates of food, gifts for the baby, offers from atheists to pray for us, and opportunities to share that our confidence and peace lies in Christ.” One of the great struggles workers face on the field is physical sickness and injury. Many have never been as sick as they are during their first few years on the field due to exposure to unfamiliar bacteria, viruses, parasites, and harsh physical environments. For some, their struggles with sickness wane as their bodies develop antibodies; for others, those struggles continue throughout their careers. Some are even forced to change jobs and locations in hopes that a change in environment will lessen their exposure to elements that cause them illness or difficulty. * Please pray that the Lord will give missionaries great stamina and good health or the grace needed to endure illness as they, in either condition, minister to the people God called them to serve. * Give thanks for the love national friends offer when missionaries are vulnerable. * Join missionaries in praying that they will not grow weary of the journey He has placed before them. |
