“Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:1b-2a, NKJV)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, praying with you for those facing violence and danger.

Some believers in Sri Lanka usually travel in three-wheeled, motorized ‘tuk-tuks,’ but when they headed to the capital city for their flight out of the country, it was too far away and too dangerous a trip, so they got a taxi. On the way down the mountain, it was night. The roads were insanely dangerous, with oncoming buses, cars, tuk-tuks and motorcycles. The driver suddenly pulled over. He hopped out of the car, leaving it running, crossed the busy street, and then disappeared into a Buddhist temple. In a couple of minutes, he was back with a handful of flower petals, to ensure safe travel down the mountain. The believers were very glad that they had asked for God’s protection when they started off on the trip and were not relying on those petals. They were also able to share the story of the Bible. The Creation account in Scripture feeds a hunger in the Buddhist mind for a reason and source of all that they see. Their philosophy does not provide answers to those questions.

Many Sorani and Behdini Kurds of Central Asia have already escaped civil war once, and they now face the prospect of doing it again. All of them are weary, fearful, and in need of hope. One student recently shared his thoughts of suicide as a way to escape a life he hates and a future without peace. Another told of her fears over the outcome of war in her hometown and what might happen to her friends and family. Will there ever be peace? Will they ever escape war?

* Please pray on behalf of the Kurds, asking that they find peace in Jesus and receive forgiveness of their sins

* Pray that the Truth of Scripture will resonate in the souls of Sri Lankan Buddhists who are seeking God.

* Give thanks for Christians who keep their eyes fixed on the author and finisher of our faith as they share the Gospel in dangerous locations.
