‘Surrender and abide,’ Platt challenges Brook Hills
God was doing an “unusual work” in David Platt’s life when, on a mission trip, he heard the dizzying news that Tom Elliff was retiring as president of IMB. What Platt hadn’t realized yet was that God was continuing the journey that would lead to Platt’s election as IMB president. With “deep resolve,” Platt said his desire to follow God trumps all else. Pray for Platt as he steps up the same challenge he left with the church he has pastored for eight years: surrender to Christ and abide in Him,

N. Iraq: Forcibly displaced Christians receive life-saving supplies
Persecuted Christians in Iraq fear they are facing extinction. Abraham Shepherd, who leads Baptist Global Response (BGR) work in the Middle East, promised to make their story known. Southern Baptist donations are helping families in this ancient Christian community who have gone for three weeks with little to eat after fleeing their homes. Yet more is needed: Give today to provide relief.

VIDEO: Abraham narrates their story.

Help by telling others about the crisis these families face and encouraging others to donate, either at gobgr.org or globalhungerrelief.com.  Follow BGR’s updates at facebook.com/gobgr or twitter.com/gobgr.

'Chaser of darkness'
Tom Elliff will be remembered for his boundless energy and a passion for prayer - and a heart broken for the lost. During his years as president of IMB, he initiated a number of new opportunities for churches and individuals to serve and pray for the nations – as “chasers of darkness,” a reference Elliff often uses for those who “take the Light to the ends of the earth.”

WorldView: Bad news, Good news
Violence and hatred rage everywhere. Wars, skirmishes and suffering flare up where we don’t expect them, and where we do. Ukraine and Russia. Syria. Iraq. Israel and Gaza. West Africa.  Most people tune it out – except those in touch with the mind and heart of God. Those who seek to follow Him know it’s not who we are; it’s who He is. It’s only His love, through His Spirit, that changes a broken world.

Afghanistan: Prayers for the healing of a country
Ultimately the story of Afghanistan will not be written by Western media. It does not belong to the Taliban or al Qaeda, warlords or tribal elders. The story of Afghanistan belongs to God. As Christians we have a calling to intercede for those living in this dangerous place.

Order the Afghanistan prayer guide and lead your church or small group in a focused season of prayer for a people and country loved by God.
