The Coastal Swahili woman burst into tears--crying uncontrollably while relaying a story she had recently heard on the news. She apologized for the outburst and explained that her internal sadness was sometimes so overwhelming that she couldn’t help but sob. She needs Jesus. Fathila* wakes up every morning, kisses her son, and catches a bus to teach at a school. She is a well-educated Tunisian Arab and is stalwart in her devotion to her religion, Islam. Fathila was perplexed when she met a true follower of Jesus, because the “Christian” people she sees on television have lifestyles that do not honor God. When she heard the Good News, she insisted that she would rely on her own good works when she stands before God. Fathila exclaimed, “Why would God send someone to take my sin for me?” Ildar*, a computer programmer in his mid-20s, is a self-proclaimed atheist, a Tatar of Central Asia. He met Dennis* when he went to Dennis’s workplace to improve his English. Dennis has shared the Gospel with Ildar and has given him a book dealing with critical questions about the existence and nature of the Most High. Ildar has been reading this book and, at the invitation of one of Dennis’ colleagues, has been to a local group of believers. Though uncomfortable with the singing and message he hears, he has visited on multiple occasions. * Please pray that Dennis will be bold to proclaim the Truth, and remember Ildar, asking that his heart will be softened today to the Spirit of the living, resurrected Savior. * Intercede for Fathila and many other Tunisians who are struggling to understand the depth of God’s love for them. * Ask God to demonstrate His power and salvation to this Coastal Swahili woman as He offers true hope. *names changed |
