“I will delight in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.” (Psalm 119:16, HCSB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, praying for electronic distribution of Scripture.

In a small village, some visiting believers gave three young Amharan men SD memory cards for their cell phones. They had seen the “JESUS” film and were told that they could watch it on their phones now. In addition, they could read and listen to extensive biblical teaching. They wanted cards for their friends, so the believers told them just to send the content to their friends via Bluetooth. The believers said that these three could be responsible for getting the content to lots of people in their town, and the young men agreed. The SD memory cards contain the “Creation to Christ” story, chronological Bible stories, the “JESUS” film and the “Magdalena” film, the audio New Testament, the entire Bible written in Amharic, discipleship Bible stories, and 150 songs that are Scripture based and are in the Orthodox style.

A friend in a rural area of Ethiopia asked some visiting believers for solar-powered audio players for two Orthodox priests who do not live near each other. These priests teach in their homes, while also serving in the Orthodox Church. Two of the audio players were provided for the priests to use with their people. The audio players contain similar content to the SD memory cards. These audio players are easy to use for those who are not technologically savvy.

It used to be difficult for Saudi Arabs to access the Bible. Now there are online versions and mobile apps that they can download easily.

* Please pray that millions of Saudis will desire the Word and that the Holy Spirit will give them understanding and quicken their hearts toward Him as they read.

* Intercede for these Ethiopian priests that they will consistently listen to and share what they are hearing on the solar-powered audio players with their congregations.

* Pray that the three young Amharan men will listen to the SD memory card content, come to a true faith in Jesus, and share it with many.

“They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:42, 47b, NKJV)

WORLD LEADERS - "Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence" (1 Timothy 2:1-2, NKJV). Please pray today for President Yahya Jammeh of The Gambia (western Africa, bordering the North Atlantic Ocean and Senegal).

KABYLE BERBERS OF ALGERIA AND FRANCE (kuh-BEEL BER-bers) - Lynda* was a sad, troubled woman seeking healing and solace through charms and black magic. She collaborated with a friend, Arlene*, in some shady dealings, and Arlene cheated her. The two parted ways, and had no contact for 10 years . . . until Lynda responded to a knock at her door and opened it to find a trembling woman, who cried out, “I’ve finally found you!” It was Arlene, and she poured out her story. She and her husband had continued to do evil, until one day they were both mysteriously and simultaneously struck with partial paralysis of face and limb. One night she had a dream in which a figure on a cloud told her to find Lynda and seek reconciliation. She told of the miraculous events that had led her to Lynda’s door. Lynda said, “I left my dark past behind when I encountered ‘the way, the truth and the life.’ I began walking in the light.” Arlene tearfully begged, “Please forgive me. I’m sorry for all the pain I caused you.” Lynda put her arms around her and said, “Of course, I forgive you. I myself have been forgiven much. You’re my friend.” This evidence of God’s sovereign way of directing people and events strengthened Lynda’s faith and renewed her hope in His marvelous plans. Please pray for a miracle of healing and belief for Arlene, and for Lynda’s faith and witness to Muslim family members and friends of her past and present. (*names changed)

LUGBARA OF UGANDA (loog-BAR-ah) - The Lugbara Team asks: “Pray for the leadership team as they evaluate the great things God did at the August leadership camp and plan for the future. Significant questions are under discussion, such as: How will this ministry survive and thrive without the presence of missionaries? How does the leadership team need to develop to fully own and lead this ministry? What are the priority spiritual needs to address among those who are being discipled? Some of the young adults who were trained at the camp want to join the leadership team. This will require a big commitment of time and energy, as well as accountability and service while leading others. Ask God to encourage and lead each young person as they begin new small groups in their homes, schools, and communities in order to share the Gospel and make disciples.”

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8, HCSB)

Please pray today for Prime Minister Daniel Ona Ondo of Gabon (western equatorial Africa).

SOUTH KOREA - Near a large university, three young men were walking on a sidewalk. One had a tract in his hand and was talking and explaining the Gospel to the two other young men. It was Youth Day in the area, and many tables had been set up for games and interactive activities. Witness to students is greatly needed, because Korean youth are dropping out of the church. Long-valued traditions are being challenged, and worldly values are seeping in. Pray for creative ways to engage youth with the Good News. Pray that youth who are believers will be bold in their witness and live a life worthy of the Gospel, displaying salt and light to a generation that is searching for truth and love.

SPANIARDS OF NORTHERN SPAIN (SPAN-yurds) - “Two percent . . . it doesn’t seem like much does it? It would be a dream sales tax or an easily achievable goal--until we apply it to seeing our people group described as ‘2 percent of evangelized.’ We have been challenged by our leadership to come up with a strategy to reach this ‘2 percent evangelized’ goal by the year 2020. In our particular case, this would mean beginning three or four house churches a month, consisting of 15 people in each group. Honestly, this number feels overwhelming to us. Just the thought of it brings us to our knees before the Lord! It puts a whole new weight upon us, and while we have to be extremely intentional in all that we say or do, we must also be extremely sensitive to God’s leading and His Spirit. Please join us at the throne of grace on behalf of this 2 percent figure. Unite with us as we ask the Lord to pour out His Spirit and presence on this lost land. Pray that His Spirit will pierce the hearts of the few believers that we know in such a way that they will join with us in the endeavor of reaching the lost and pushing back the darkness in this spiritually desolate land.”

Heroes and ghosts
Photographer Joseph Rose recently covered the crisis in northern Iraq and shares the impact it had on him through a series of photos and video clips. “It’s kind of like a gallery of images in my mind – a gallery of heroes and ghosts,” Rose says. He prays God will use these images and stories “to stick in people’s minds … to haunt them into action – into prayer for these people, into giving toward this crisis and into even going.”

Baptists work to educate West Africa about Ebola
The 2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa continues to be the deadliest Ebola epidemic in history. Baptists in West Africa and Baptist Global Response (BGR) have implemented strategies to provide basic education about the virus, including storying and role-playing and distribution of brochures explaining how the disease is spread.

“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7, NKJV)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for those dealing with the Ebola virus.

As of this writing, five West African countries have had documented cases of this epidemic, and over 3,000 people have died. A large number of Maninka live in one of those countries. Strict guidelines have been issued in regard to handling the sick and dying, but in a culture where death and burial have consequences for the living if not done properly, those guidelines don’t mean much. As a result, people have been caring for their sick and continuing their burial rituals in secret (washing of the body by older family members, wrapping the body in special cloth, etc.), for fear that loved ones will be taken away and not be buried in a way that has been done for centuries.

Just four days after the news that the dreaded Ebola virus had infected the country where a worker among the Mandinka people lives, she walked into the kitchen to find her house helper doubled over, with sweat beaded on her brow, complaining of severe stomach pains. The worker sent her helper home to rest and frantically began bleaching anything she might have touched. The worker said, “My head told me that it was most likely malaria or one of the common stomach ailments in our area, but my heart looked at my four beautiful children and cried out in panic. The Bible tells us to cast all our anxiety on God. We cannot be effective if we are living in a state of fear and panic. We also cannot be effective if we are too ill to minister.”

* Please pray for believing families living in West Africa to follow God’s wisdom and direction as they minister to their communities.

* Intercede for the Maninka and Mandinka peoples who are bound by traditions and rituals that they will listen to health care workers to stop the spread of the virus.

* Pray that West Africans cast their cares upon the Lord and surrender their spiritual and physical health to Him.

"Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.” (John 16:24b, HCSB)

Please pray today for President Francois Hollande of France (western Europe).

AEGEAN TURKS OF TURKEY (uh-JEE-an) - “In a tiny little town nestled between a lake and olive tree-covered mountains (a town well known for its place in church history), two of our co-workers had the opportunity to share Gospel truth with a young man who lives in a nearby village. Newly married, he lives with his extended family, and after requesting both a Bible and a DVD about Jesus from a correspondence website, he gathered his family and they all watched it together. When he first contacted our co-workers about meeting face to face, he wanted to know if it was all right for him to highlight things in his Bible as he read so he could ask questions when they met. After being reassured that it would be fine because the best way to show honor to the Word of God is to listen and obey, he began reading and highlighting. When they met, he pointed out his questions from his highlighted text in the Book of Matthew. They visited and talked for the next three hours. He seems to be the only one in his family interested at this moment, but he’s already been in touch about meeting these co-workers again, this time in his village, and he’s been reading and highlighting more things in his Bible. Praise God for this open door to his village! Please pray for Serkan* to encounter Jesus in a personal way as he reads, and pray that the Word spoken in this village will yield much fruit.” (*name changed)

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA (loo-SAH-kah) - Orphans and vulnerable children, while not in the news, still face major problems. Their plight presents an immense opportunity not just to do evangelism, but also to have disciple-making relationships. Expanded Church Response, a non-governmental organization (NGO) led by a Baptist missionary in Lusaka, is reaching out to these children. Pray for those involved in this organization as they help churches and schools build up families to care for the nieces, nephews and grandchildren in their households, and as they help the population segment most vulnerable to violence and abuse: women and children. Lift them up as they train caregivers and families to start small businesses to generate income to care for themselves. Pray that God will be glorified as they extend their Christian witness through relationships with clinics, schools, the government, Christian organizations, and others. Pray for a successful outreach through human needs in both rural and urban areas.

"I waited patiently for the Lord, and He turned to me and heard my cry for help.” (Psalm 40:1, HCSB)

Please pray today for Prime Minister Cai-Goran Stubb of Finland (northern Europe).

CONNECTING IN PANAMA - Lift up Pastor Robert* and his local congregation at La Boca as they finalize a partnership with a church in Kentucky. This partnership has been in the planning stages for a good amount of time, and after several setbacks, they are finally ready to proceed! They have a unified vision for an area of town that currently does not have an evangelical presence. Pray for all the final details to be worked out so that together, they can reach the people and share the truth of the Gospel with them. (*name changed)

LAST FRONTIER - As families serving among a Last Frontier people group return to the field following a stateside assignment, please lift up their children who have been through change and are now heading into another transition. Sometimes they will return to the same city and get to reunite with old friends, but other times they will begin again in a new city and have to make new friends. These can be challenging times for the children, and they will need extra attention and encouragement to reach out to others and make new friends. Their adjustment and health is vital to the effective work of their families. Ask for encouragement and grace, on their behalf, to adjust to these new changes and to develop new relationships.
