Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” (James 4:8, NKJV) Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for those battling to leave their false religious ways. A Tswana woman of Botswana found herself and her daughter enslaved by a witch doctor and unable to escape because she had no money. Eventually Ludo* was able to start a paper bead-making group, and sold enough necklaces and earrings to get away. She then came to a full understanding of the Lord. She was making a good amount of money from her new business, but not enough to live on, so the two had to live with family. Family members wanted her to return to the witch doctor—one uncle even beat up the 10-year-old daughter to try to force her to go back. Around that time, Christian workers led a financial training course, and Ludo learned how to manage her money “God’s way.” She was able to save a substantial amount and paid cash to rent their own place. We all rejoice when people turn from idols to salvation in Jesus. However, there can be lingering problems as the new believer rejects the past and follows the Savior. Jindra* is a young South Asian woman who came from another faith. She still feels the oppression of evil spirits and curses that were part of her former religion. And there are others like her. When a fellowship group is started, and new members like Jindra joins, the group’s leaders can face challenges in guiding and reassuring the young followers. This is happening in various places, such as Vancouver and Toronto. * Please pray for Jindra and others to be freed from the influences of evil spirits and curses. * Intercede for the others in Ludo’s bead-making group that they will come to salvation through a new financial training the workers are leading at Ludo’s request. * Ask God to reveal any double-minded thinking in your own life and, in obedience to His Word, purify your heart. *name changed |
