“He is Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in shrines made by hands.” (Acts 17:24b HCSB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for two unengaged unreached people groups in China.

The Eastern Xiangxi Miao live mostly in northwestern Hunan province and number approximately 120,000. They are farmers of rice, mulberries and silkworms. They are expert spinners, weavers and embroiderers. The Eastern Xiangxi Miao are mostly animists and also practice ancestor worship and polytheism. They worship Pan Hu, whom they believe to be their dragon-dog ancestor. Annually they sacrifice animals and spread the blood on their doorposts. In the 1920s through 1940s, there was some work done among the Eastern Xiangxi Miao, with a report of 1,000 believers. Today, their status of evangelism is not known, and there is no written or recorded Word of God in their language.

The Eastern Luoluopo are considered to be part of the Yi minority by the Chinese government, but their language sets them apart. These approximately 47,500 people are thought to be one of the most unevangelized people groups in the world. They live in central Yunnan province, often on the steep mountainsides. The Eastern Luoluopo are very superstitious and blend ancestor worship and animism. The oldest male family member is responsible for maintaining the family spirit altar and all the related rituals. The Eastern Luoluopo often offer sacrifices, burn incense, and wear small amulets to keep the evil spirits away. There is no known written or audio form of any Gospel message in their language. In April 2014, two believers from another people group went to share the Good News but there are no reports of Eastern Luolupo believers yet.

* Please pray that nearby believers will be burdened for the Eastern Luoluopo and take the Good News of Jesus to them.

* Intercede for the Eastern Xiangxi that they will hear about the Lamb of the Passover and His precious blood that was shed for them.

* Pray that the bondage of ancestor worship and animism will be broken for both people groups.
