“Not everyone has heeded the good news.” (Romans 10:16a, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, joining you in prayer for individuals who want to follow Jesus but face family resistance.

For several years, one young Senufo man in Mali was the only Christian in his family, but he has now been joined on ‘the Jesus Road’ by one of his brothers! There are also a few other young members of his extended family who have expressed an interest in reading the Bible and learning more about being a Christ follower. These young adults are experiencing pressure from older family members.

More than 20 young adults--Torch people believers of East Asia--will be going back to their village homes to share the Gospel. They have said, “I enjoy telling the story of Christ to my people. But there is one group that’s extremely difficult to talk to: my family.” “Family members tell you exactly what they think. They laugh, insult, scold, and even get angry. It’s the most difficult thing to do as a Christ follower: share the Gospel with my family.”  These believers know that they will face persecution, but as one of them said, “How can we leave our family out of the most important, life-changing story in the world?”

The ongoing conflict in the Gaza strip has opened up many opportunities for Martha* to have spiritual conversations with others who live in her city. Recently she had the opportunity to pray for her next-door neighbor’s daughter, who was in the hospital. God answered that prayer, and the daughter came home a few days later.

* Please pray that Martha will be able to have more conversations with her neighbor and that her neighbor will put her trust in Jesus.

* Pray that the Holy Spirit will soften hearts and prepare family members in East Asia to hear the Gospel.

* Pray for wisdom for workers in Mali as they encourage these young people that they do so without causing undue problems for them with their family.
